Your Team:

The team consists of development engineers and technicians developing new LED L2 solutions for the Lighting Industry. It is part of the R&D Organization of Philips Global LED Electronics Business Unit. (which is under Philips BG LED and part of the Philips Lighting Sector). The Philips LED Electronics Business Unit is in a tremendous growth phase and the business in North America grew by almost 50% last year. Important stakeholders are global team members of R&D, Product Management, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and of course business partners, OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturers such as Fixtures/Luminaires makers), and end-users such as Lighting designers, building owners, energy managers etc.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the electrical / integral design.

  • Responsible for the technical project execution of LED L2 designs. Is responsible for implementation and realization according to the project plan (specification, quality, time, money, information) and organization

  • Delivers the TPD (technical product documentation) and needed Quality results

  • Organizes & reports a technical risk review; tackles risks with appropriate mitigation

  • Reports technical progress including escalation of issues and risks

  • Gives input for the project plan to the Integral Project Manager

  • Creates tasks, plans and follows up technical team

  • Advises the IPM on deviations and corrective actions

  • Arranges timely availability of customer samples in the project.

  • Gives feedback to the architect on manufacturability of the concept

Your Challenge:

As the development Engineer you interface to the different functions within our organization, one of the key challenges would be to execute multiple projects within a short time frame, with the right quality and cost. Another key challenge will be drive improvement activities to further strengthen our team and improve project through put.


  • 1-5 years’ experience in a similar job or in electronic product creation (from concept to mass production) and in directing (small) projects in relevant technological areas with a short product lifecycle.

  • Mechanical, optical, thermal or and electronic engineering knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of project management methods and tools

  • Knowledge of LED components and relevant area of application (LED Lighting systems)

  • Knowledge of different Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) and PCB layouts using electronic components is a plus

  • Green belt knowledge on Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and/or Value Engineering is a plus

  • Experience in working effectively with remote teams and/or foreign suppliers (Mexico) will be considered as a plus
