Job Description

  • Primarily responsible for engineering activities related to the introduction of new software, integration with other applications and groups, changes in process or architectural changes related to environments or applications supported by the team

  • Direct responsibility for the completion of operational obligations and project goals such as (not exhaustive):

  • All Veritas products, SLES, Solaris11, (VMWare is a plus)

  • Server Builds

  • Remote Systems Management

  • Solaris/Linux Operating System

  • Server Configuration Management

  • Performance Management

  • Capacity Planning

  • Capacity and Performance Reporting

  • Operational Support

  • Security Management

  • Patch Management

  • Asset Management

  • Audit responsibilities

  • Change management

  • Incident and Problem management, including RCA

  • Disaster Recovery testing support

  • Maintenance of lab and development environments

  • All other duties as assigned*LI-POST

Job Requirements

  • SuSE Linux Expertise

  • Solaris Experience

  • Knows how to script & proficient with the command line interface

  • Experience working with both virtual hosts (VMWARE) and virtual guest OS's

  • Excellent TCP/IP Networking skills

  • VxCFS (Veritas Cluster File System) on SLES/VMWARE

  • Enterprise experience working with SAN attached systems

  • Experience with using volume management and file system management.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills: ability to clearly and concisely articulate issues, alternatives, and recommendations

  • Blade Logic experience is a plus

  • SpaceWalk implementation/ongoing support experience is a plus

  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure, fast-paced environment

  • Strengths in Automation/Scripting is a plus

  • Project Management skill levels sufficient for the understanding and implementation of within-team and cross-functional projects

  • Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to understand complex relationships between components of multi-tiered applications and systems.

  • Self-driven and be able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Experience in a user-focused technical-support environment

  • ITIL Foundations knowledge

Qualifications Work Environment

  • Minimum of 4 years experience as an Enterprise UNIX/Linux System Administrator

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related field is desired

  • Available for off-hours escalations as 2nd and 3rd tier of on-call support

  • Little to no travel required (< 10%)
