Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of position:
Provides technical leadership in develop and document standardized methods and procedures for measurement systems.
Individual contributor, lead or team member with ownership of a significant part of the accomplishment within Business Unit/Area, Plant, Division, Function, Region. Managing high complex scope, many variables and stakeholders across multiple functions/divisions/countries. Coach Jr. Engineers and Technicians
Plant level manufacturing support point of contact for measurement equipment systems
Understand system level problem statements and identify potential solutions, develop novel approaches to solve complex problems and make quick critical experiments to demonstrate feasibility
Lead cross-functional/work-stream project teams to support process improvement process through measurement software and hardware upgrades, evaluating process cost, quality, and capability alternatives; performs project management and documentation activities
Provide progress reports to key stakeholders and organizational leadership
Utilize statistical tools, engineering data, and DMAIC/DESGN/Lean/MEE methodologies to develop process understanding to support robust manufacturing processes and Measurement systems
Work with Engineering at varies levels for the development and introduction of new measurements technology and upgrade of existing measurement systems, includes participation in the design, building, testing and extension of various measurement systems
Participate in cross-functional and virtual project teams or in Stage Gate (RA, LA, GA) defined, in order to support global standardization processes
Development and execution of Measurement Systems Analysis and R&R studies, design experiments and analyze data to identify and implement improvements to the measurement systems or production process
Create/update documentation for release to production including operating procedures, PM and troubleshooting
Train engineering, maintenance and operations people how to use and maintain the measurement systems
Propose and implement iKaizen and Safety iKaizen (ergonomic devices and processes) to enable a safe work environment; support and perform 5S implementation in work area to achieve Plant goal
Able to train, coach, and mentor fellow employees in areas pertaining to the job responsibilities
B.S. Degree in Computer science and/or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics
3 year in similar position or manufacturing environment.
+1 year of experience in one or more of the following: System development, System integration, Software System development, Software optics or vision based design and implementation.
Experience in software development (e.g. Mat lab, C++, VB.Net, image analysis, data analysis)
Background in computer programs like C#, VB.net, Lab view, Wit, C++ etc.
Experience using software that efficiently analyzes large data sets
Knowledge in languages and APIs to create database driven web based applications that utilize an SQL backend (MySQL preferred)
Knowledge of electrical/optical/mechanical installations, including system checkout and troubleshooting
Some exposure to electrical/controls, instrumentation (e.g. sensors) and vision systems technologies
Experience debugging and bringing to production controls/vision systems
Some exposure in optical theory, image capture, lighting, cameras, 3rd party imaging tools
Problem solving skills with hands-on approach
Basic project management skills (e.g. scoping, budgeting, timelines etc.)
Green Belt certification
Course work or experience with using tools such as Solid works, Cero Parametric etc.
Some exposure to high powered laser systems
Some exposure to precision optical systems
Experience with image analysis (vision measurement systems)
Communication and presentation skills
