Job Description


The Project Safety Application Engineer is one of the key players ensuring product safety for Continental and our customers. You will apply ISO 26262, “Road vehicles – Functional safety” within a global, multi­disciplinary engineering environment that focuses on state­of­the­art Electronic Braking Systems (EBS) for vehicle dynamics control.

Core Responsibilities:

• Align the Development Interface Agreement (DIA) with customers and Tier 2 suppliers

• Review and update Hazard Analysis (HA) for new vehicle dynamics features and align Continental HA with customers’ HA

• Create and maintain Project Safety Plan in alignment with project management and engineering departments according to Continental’s development process

• Coordinate activities between customer’s safety organization and Continental’s engineering organization for safety related activities

• Escalate and de­escalate project issues pertaining to timing, cost or safety

• Facilitate and lead functional safety work product reviews, audits, and assessments

• Compile Safety Case throughout project development process

• Create and maintain Project Safety Status Report for weekly review

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in engineering, computer science or in a related technical discipline

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the automotive industry

• Excellent verbal and written English communications skills

• Working knowledge of ISO 26262, “Road vehicles – Functional safety” and its methodologies

• Systematic problem solving skills

• Knowledge of automotive­related product life cycles

• Some travel may be required for training and to support customer meetings

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in engineering, computer science or in a related technical discipline

• Experience with embedded systems development

• Experience in Project Management

• Knowledge about Automotive SPICE

• Knowledge of automotive regulatory bodies within the U.S. and Europe

• Experience with vehicle dynamics control systems
