General Electric Customs Operations Leader in Monterrey, Mexico

Role Summary:

In this role, you will oversee the import and export operations at the Monterrey Center, provide strategic customs subject matter expertise while supporting the operations and/or a specific program initiative. You will be responsible to coordinate the work with sub regional leaders in LATAM and the BPO, to ensure processes compliant and efficient.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategy for Customs operations in the center.

  • Ensure the pre-declaration review is performed including confirmation that valuation, classification, country of origin and any applicable special program documentation is complete before an import or export occurs;

  • Work with approved agents to support daily customs clearances and own shipment issue resolution;

  • Identify Customs risks areas and develop actionable plans and procedures to mitigate those risks;

  • Evaluate internal controls and drive implementation of recommended improvement plans;

  • Act as liaison to local and regional Customs officials in resolving Customs authorities inquiries and audits related to specific transactions and processes:

  • Provide operational support of all shipments into and out of Region by interfacing with Customs agents, 3rd parties, business representatives and internal team members;

  • Prepare periodic reports and metrics on duty, quality, savings, opportunities, risks, accomplishments and value creation;

  • Participate on applicable GE Customs Council Communities;

  • Lead, coach, coordinate and motivate the Customs team by promoting and developing talent, strengthening pipeline and promoting reward & recognition Qualifications/Requirements:

  • College degree from an accredited university or In country Professional Customs Certification

  • 5+ years experience in Customs.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, demanding environment

  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers

  • Ability to communicate complex information efficiently based on audience needs

  • Experience with driving process improvements Self starter/team player Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
