Position Description

Trinseo is seeking aTS&D; Engineer to supports the development, market implementation, and product trouble shooting of Trinseo Automotive Plastics. The opening is aimed at technically supporting customers in the use of Trinseo Automotive Plastics, as well as developing and commercializing new products and securing new application specifications in the Automotive industry for a range of Trinseo plastics, with primary focus on Styrenics resins, Polycarbonate blends, and thermoplastic elastomers semi-structural thermoplastic compounds.

As a member of Trinseo Automotive PlasticsTS&D; organization, you will have responsibility for providing technical service and product support at our key Automotive customers in Mexico and supporting implementation of newly developed materials, requiring interaction with R&D; and TS&D; colleagues in the U.S. and / or globally. You will need to work closely with sales, manufacturing and other functions within Trinseo, with technical responsibility for a defined group of customers.

The job would be based in Mexico City and will require you to apply your knowledge of polymers and polymer fabrication technologies on a daily basis. For highly talented and experienced candidates, a home house arrangement near one of the major concentrations of the Automotive industry in Mexico will also be considered.

This position based in Mexico City.

Key Responsibilities

As the technical interface with customers, the role has a strong application and product development focus, with additional responsibilities for ensuring product quality meets customer needs, with responsibilities including:

  • Identifying and understanding the end use application needs.

  • Identifying project opportunities, based on customer and market needs- molding cycle time optimization at customer, part quality yield improvement

  • Translating identified needs into new product and application development opportunities.

  • Developing and implementing new products, applications and fabrication technologies.

  • Development projects to resolve critical quality issues.

  • Developing an understanding of the competitive position.

  • Trouble shooting to support existing business

  • Training of customers in the benefits and processing conditions of Trinseo products


  • Minimum education level shouldbe a B.Sc in Polymer, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

  • 4 – 10 years’ experience in polymer processing, especially in injection molding process trouble shooting and optimization

  • Must have very good English communication skills, both spoken and written

Functional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skills in providing training to customers (technicians and engineers) on plastics products and on injection molding processing optimization troubleshooting would be highly valuable

  • A working knowledge of RCI and customer trouble shooting methodologies (8D, etc), PPAP preparation and Automotive quality standards are all highly desireable and part/ mold design is preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills are essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong customer relationships based on technical excellence, personal integrity, and achieving shared success are essential

Reporting Relationship(s)

This position reports to the Global TS&D; Director, Plastics. This is a non- supervisory role.
