Job Description

PayPal Corporate Tax has an exciting opportunity for a Manager – Americas Tax, responsible for providing support for all tax matters related to PayPal’s business operations in the Americas. In this position, you will support tax planning (US and non-US), implementation, and defense of initiatives and transactions as well as supervise the local compliance and income tax provision processes.

This role is hands on – in this position, you will be expected to proactively identify needs, risks, and opportunities to bring additional value to PayPal. You will become a trusted advisor to senior PayPal personnel and be responsible for maintaining close links to the business and developing strong client relationships with internal partners. You must be a self-starter with the ability to operate independently and manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.

The position reports into the Director - Americas Tax and is based in San Jose with 25% travel to Canada and Central and South America.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist the Director- Americas Tax in providing foreign and US Int’l tax support to PayPal’s Americas business for all initiatives, transactions and commercial arrangements (including the creation, liquidation, and rationalization of entities, the review of new customer contracts, and the consideration of new business ventures and opportunities)

Support US, Canadian, and Latin American tax controversy, including researching issues under exam, drafting responses to IDR requests and tax protest letters, and preparing models of potential outcomes of foreign and domestic controversy matters

Coordinate the preparation of income tax returns with local tax providers and review returns

Collaborate with other functions within the Tax Department to determine complete tax impact of initiatives

Job Requirements

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience. Corporate tax department experience with a large multinational company strongly preferred

  • BA/BS in Accounting with CPA and/or JD with LLM

  • US Int’l tax background (subpart F, transfer pricing, US withholding). Familiarity with current OECD BEPS guidance and country by country reporting a plus

  • Self-motivated with strong project management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with team members

  • Critical thinker, with the ability to work across regions and functions in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex tax issues to non-tax audiences

  • Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese a benefit although not required

  • Proficiency with MS Office, in particular, Power Point and Excel
