organization is seeking an experienced Sustaining Engineering Manager.

The Sustaining Engineering Manager

works in the Doceng organization. The Doceng organization designs, creates,

implements and maintains Publishing Tools that are used for the creation,

publishing, and delivery of Product Documentation to the Oracle Help Center ( http://docs.oracle.com ). The Doceng Tools

are used by User Assistance (UA) Information Developers (technical writers) to

perform their daily task of creating, maintaining and delivering product

documentation.

The Sustaining Engineering Manager

is responsible for managing a team of Sustaining Engineers to create

maintenance fixes and Service Packs for defects found in the Doceng Tools.

The Sustaining Engineering Manager

responsibilities include:

  • Managing Team of Sustaining

Engineers to:

o

Investigate and troubleshoot trouble

tickets (JIRA issues) that are reported by the Product Documentation Teams

(400 technical writers)

o

Resolve JIRA issues and implement

fixes.

o

Deploying maintenance fixes /

Service Packs to the Production environment.

  • Planning and scheduling fixes to be

deployed in the Service Packs.

  • Trouble Ticket Assignments to

Sustaining Engineers.

  • Interacting and working with Doceng

Development, Support, Quality Assurance, and Production teams and Information Architects

to resolve issues.

  • Interacting and working with teams

external to Doceng and to the main Product Documentation organization.

As a member of the Doc Engineering

(Doceng) organization, the Sustaining Engineering Manager takes an active role

in the definition and evolution of Sustaining Engineering practices and

procedures.

Sustaining Engineers.

  • Interacting and working with Doceng

Development, Support and Quality Assurance teams and Information Architects to

resolve issues.

  • Building the team (interviewing new

candidates for the Sustaining Engineering position).

  • Interacting and working with the

Doceng Quality Assurance team to verify fixes.

  • Working closely with Doceng

Development team and Information Architects on issues.

  • Developing and Maintaining a

Sustaining Engineering Development and workflow process for team to adhere to.

Work

is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced

technical applications in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually

and as a manager, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree

or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 3 to 5 years of Sustaining

Engineering experience as a Manager.

Qualifications, working knowledge /

experience in the following areas:

  • Maintenance / Service Pack Creation

  • Trouble Ticket Management

  • Defect Resolution

  • Source Control/Code Merges

  • Development Process

  • Quality Control in Code Management and verification offixes.

Technical Skills / Working knowledge

in any or more of the following areas is

Highly Desirable:

  • Java

  • HTML, XHTML, XML, XSLT, CSS

  • PDF generation/rendering Tools

  • Perl

  • Python

  • DITA / DITA OpenToolkit

  • JIRA

  • GIT

  • Rest APIs

  • Linux Development environments (Unix Scripting)

  • Markup Languages

  • Database / SQL

Familiarity /experience with

authoring tools usage, Search, and Content Management System (CMS) are a plus.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture.

Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
