Job Description

Overview

The Guadalajara Mexico facility of Continental is seeking a highly motivated engineer with an EE/ME/Physics background to train in prior-art searching and patent application preparation and prosecution to add to its IP team. You will work with engineers, patent counsel in Mexico, Germany and in the US as well

as with business units to audit and manage a patent portfolio, manage a patent review committee, prepare, file and prosecute patent applications and

assist with other work, including opinions, agreements, managing outside IP counsel and litigation support. The work includes an interesting mix of

automotive technologies and clients. Collegial atmosphere provides a great work environment and an opportunity to grow

The patent search engineer will report to the Head of IP for the Americas and assist patent counsel in the Auburn Hills office and in Deer Park, and may also support other Conti locations.

Additional responsibilities

Performing prior art searches on invention disclosures, recommending inactivation of invention disclosures that lack novelty, and preparing one-page summaries for potentially patentable invention disclosures

Responsible for controlling and tracking spending to stay within budget guidelines.

You will be trained on MX, EP, DE, USPTO and PCT rules, regulations, forms; ability to perform research in the MPEP and to share knowledge with and train others

You will be trained to draft and prosecute domestic MX and international patent applications, conduct product clearances, freedom to operate and patentability searches.

Training will require stays in DP, AH, Munich, FRA and/or NBG IP locations for up to 3 to 6 months for all locations combined.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications

You will be trained in prior-art searching and patent application preparation and prosecution.

Ability to understand patents directed to electrical and mechanical automotive technology.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in EE/ME/Computer Science/Physics with strong writing skills.

Strong, collegial, and respectful verbal and written communication skills

Strong computer skills including an ability to actively learn and utilize software including, Microsoft Office, the USPTO's EFS, and Continental's IP docket management database
