American Express Payments Consulting Manager in Distrito Federal, Mexico

The GMS Payments Consulting Group (PCG) in the US and LAC is a team of over 45 FTE across 29 proprietary markets that enable merchant payments, new products and capabilities, and manage critical relationships with Third Party Processors. Payments Consultants act as the Client Managers’ single point of contact for all payments solutions requests from our Merchants. Payments solutions require Payments Consultants to be able to provide support in all stages of the life cycle of a payment transaction (authorization, submission and conciliation). American Express depends on the Payment Consulting team to enable Card acceptance, identify and implement payment solutions (products and services) in customer-facing situations. Relationship building, communication, and problem-solving skills are important for success for these teams’ roles.

The Payments Consulting Manager is the liaison between the PCG team and the Client Managers, our Merchants, and other technical areas that support the AmEx acquiring platforms. The Payments Consulting Manager must also maintain deep and current knowledge about the payments services industry, market trends, new and existing technologies, products and services, and the structure of American Express and customer organizations.

This role requires an experienced and persuasive employee with experience in people management, thought leadership, analytical skills and a track record of complex problem solving, and flawless project execution. Principal Accountabilities: - Lead and develop a team of high performing employees to deliver against clear GMS goals - Build strong internal and external relationships to facilitate delivery of shared goals - Leverage payments expertise and insights to create merchant values and grow merchant Net Promoter Score (NPS) - Partner with the merchant acquisition team to assess high yield opportunities within the merchant portfolio, and establish and action plan to engage clients - Develop relationship at senior-levels with clients to understand their business objectives, payment needs, current environment, and key pain-points - Take a consultative approach to evaluate merchant’s current credit card processing environment to identify requirements, vulnerabilities and opportunities

Skills required: * Understanding of emerging payment types, their success factors, benefits and value proposition * Demonstrated project management and delivery skills * Experienced people leader * Understanding of American Express Payments processes across a range of American Express products, capabilities and merchant industries is a plus * Strong consultative sales/solution building skills - Strong relationship building/management skills - Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills * The ability to articulate complex issues in a simple non-technical manner * Ability to operate seamlessly and influence in a globalized, matrix management environment - Strong communications skills and presence * Strong business and technical acumen and the ability to quickly understand the client’s business model and the various components of the client’s payment environment * Understanding of the American Express Closed Loop model, including the roles, and flow of data & value between constituents is a plus * Verbal and written fluency in both Spanish and English * Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Additional: * Previous experience or exposure to the technology around card processing and merchant acquiring solutions is a plus * Previous experience in the merchant processing/acquiring industry is a plus
